Maverick McConnell (b. 1995) is also a multimedia artist. Whose Psychological Pop style molds an artistic vision that is as unique and dynamic as the psyche itself. Within McConnell’s body of work, unreconcilable emotions are presented in cohesion — reflecting the conflicting expressions of masculinity. In his mind, as in his paintings and drawings, imaginary characters of an ailed youth are discovered and brought forth in their most extreme. The artist embraces the gritty aspects of the expressive human face, forming individuals out of smiling teeth and terrified eyes, dysmorphic features and multiple personalities - capturing our popular imagination with allure. His works ruminate on the striking contrast between the pleasure one may take in doing something bad and the terrifying realization of true capability. Through sexual and spiritual freedom McConnell’s art embodies the essence of Being, speaking to the human condition - complete with flowers, weapons and creatures of a dream.
Maverick lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been auctioned for the Great Khalid Foundation for underprivileged children to get performing arts scholarships, as well as the BTFA (Black Trans Femmes in the Arts).
